The full assembly typically has four layers, from inside out: the structural wall, insulation (usually mineral wool), a ventilated air cavity of 30–60 mm, and the ceramic panel held by clips, undercut anchors or a rail system. Because the panel is decoupled from the wall, damaged panels can be exchanged individually, and the whole facade drains and dries after rain — one of the reasons ceramic ventilated facades routinely last 50 years or more.
