Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between seamless and ERW pipes?
Seamless pipes are manufactured by extruding or rolling a solid billet — there is no weld seam, giving uniform wall thickness and superior pressure resistance. ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipes are formed from flat steel strip and welded along one seam. ERW pipes are more cost-effective for standard applications; seamless pipes are required for high-pressure, high-temperature, and critical applications such as boilers, oil & gas lines, and hydraulic systems.
What certifications are available for steel pipes?
Pipes are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates as standard. API 5L certification is available for linepipe grades (X42 through X65). PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) compliant documentation is available for pressure piping. Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, TÜV) can be arranged at the buyer’s request.
Can pipes be supplied in custom lengths?
Yes. Standard mill lengths are typically 6 m and 12 m (random lengths). Fixed lengths, cut-to-size, and threaded ends are available for most pipe types. Beveled ends for butt-welding can also be specified. Please include required length and end preparation details in your quote request.
What is the difference between DN (nominal diameter) and OD?
DN (Diameter Nominal) is a dimensionless designation used in European standards (EN/ISO) to classify pipe sizes for system compatibility — it does not directly represent actual outer diameter. OD (Outer Diameter) is the actual measured external diameter in millimeters. For example, DN50 corresponds to an OD of 60.3 mm. When ordering, always specify which sizing system you are using to avoid confusion.
Do you supply API 5L linepipe for oil and gas applications?
Yes. ERW and seamless pipes to API 5L grades (PSL1 and PSL2) in grades X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, and X70 are available. Full traceability, heat number documentation, and third-party inspection can be arranged. Please specify PSL level, grade, and delivery condition (as-welded, normalized, or TMCP) in your inquiry.
